These chocolate shavings are really easy to make and are a great way to turn a plain looking cake, cupcake, muffin, cheesecake or dessert into a mouthwatering looking treat. They aren’t the same as chocolate curls, more like little pieces of ‘bark’, some will curl up a little but there is a different method to making curls. They really are easy to do (trust me if I can, you can!)
I did some for my Lime Cheesecake which has white chocolate in the base so I used white chocolate to decorate it…….of course you can use a milk or dark chocolate.
METHOD
Place one large solid chocolate block of chocolate in the fridge for at least half an hour.
Then place it on a chopping board, flat side up and get your large chefs knife out (not a serrated knife).
Move the chocolate so that one end is resting against your apron or place another board sideways on top of the first board (in between you and the chocolate)…..so that the chocolate cannot move in your direction.
Hold the handle of the knife and use your fingertips to hold the top of the blade at the other end.
Starting at the end furthest away from you, slowly and firmly drag the blade (the top of the blade will be leaning towards you slightly) towards you down the block, scraping off a layer of chocolate…..
…..this will create the shavings.
The best part about this is there is still heaps of chocolate left to bake something with….or to eat when the kids go to bed….YaY!
Do you hide chocolate so you can enjoy it alone and don’t have to share? What’s your favourite hiding place? My mother used to hide it in her knickers draw!!
